Our Goals:

The Jurupa Valley Coalition is dedicated to supporting students in need from Jurupa Valley High School and Rubidoux High School by hosting a fundraiser to ensure they can attend Prom and Grad Night. Our primary goal is to cover the cost of tickets for these events and provide Visa gift cards for food or souvenirs, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent these students from participating in memorable high school experiences.

We Love Helping Our Kids:

At the heart of our community project is a deep commitment to supporting students who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and create cherished memories, regardless of their living situation. By coming together as a community, we can make a significant impact in the lives of these students and show them that they are valued and supported.

The fundraiser event, featuring a taco night and raffles, is designed to bring the community together in support of our cause. Through this event, we aim to raise funds to cover the expenses associated with Prom and Grad Night for students impacted by homelessness. The McKinney-Vento Act, unfortunately, does not cover these specific events, highlighting the crucial need for community support. With a deadline of February 28th, our taco night will be held on the 27th of this month, providing an opportunity for individuals to contribute and make a difference in the lives of these deserving students. The McKinney-Vento Act, implemented in California, ensures that students experiencing homelessness have access to a free and appropriate public education. This legislation provides various supports, including transportation assistance, enrollment stability, and access to necessary resources like school supplies and meals. It aims to mitigate the educational barriers faced by homeless students, promoting their academic success and stability despite their housing challenges.

Despite the invaluable support provided by the McKinney-Vento Act for students experiencing homelessness, it does not encompass expenses related to significant high school events like Prom and Grad Night. Recognizing this gap, our challenge lies in ensuring that these students have equal opportunities to participate in these milestone celebrations. We are committed to overcoming financial barriers and advocating for the inclusion of such crucial experiences within the scope of support provided by legislation. Through our fundraiser and community efforts, we aim to address this challenge head-on and make a meaningful difference in the lives of these students.
